Good angle, I hadn't considered the benefit of being the first to break a story.

It would be curious to hear from the C&P how or if there is additional pressure to break the story first because of the real-time aspect of social media and how everyone is a reporter?

Also how does that weigh in on validating sources and information? Does it change the way you validate stories before publication?

It was a great turnout and participation on Monday night. I think everybody learned something.

Question for the group. Would those attending be interested in more meetups like this one?

You're welcome to use my website as an example, though it's only a book review blog and doesn't generate any income (though I do get free books sometimes).

I agree, I think authenticity also adds to transparency and accountability. Furthermore, the occasional official tweet keeps the official from removing themselves from the process, thus increasing accountability to what is put in the tweets/facebook posts/whatever.

I don't think that it would be reasonable for a mayor of a city like Evansville to personally respond to individual tweets, but I would appreciate it if he had a trusted team to do just that.

With that being said, I DO think that it would be great to have some actual tweets from the man (or woman) himself (or herself). These could be ended with the mayor's initials, just to show that it was physically entered by the mayor.

With President Obama, I know that I'm not actually following him on Twitter. But with a mayor, I would think that an occasional tweet from the actual person would go a along with me, especially in regards to transparency and authenticity.

I think the idea of transparency leads to being specific in their policies, usage, and privacy as it relates to the city websites and social media actions. The office should be forward and honest. As far a which sites, as with business, I think it depends on where the residents are communicating. So I think the users will dictate where they want the communication from the mayor with their actions and involvement. The mayor can guide the city in the future, but he/she can't do it alone.
