There Was Something Wrong With Your Website
Well, we found out that yes, in fact, there is something wrong with our websites. Actually, there are a lot of things wrong with our websites. The good news, is that we had a terrific panel of teachers willing to not only point out our websites shortcomings, but also suggest fixes.
Last night the Social Media Club of Evansville met at Ri Ra Irish Pub, to discuss What’s Wrong With Your Website? It was a meeting designed to help web creators and Evansville businesses create more engaging websites and optimize for both search engines and conversions. The review panel consisted of Andrew Epperson, Zac Parsons, and Tim Piazza, each covering different aspects of web development.
The panel’s main focus was of course on social engagement and how your website can better reach the social media crowd. In addition, special attention was given to search engine optimization and how visitors can be funneled into your sites pages. And lastly, how can your website better keep or convert that visitor. Surprising to some, little things can make a big impact and do not take a lot of effort to fix.
Some simple rules to design by:
- Do not autoplay music or video.
- Speed matters, are you optimized?
- Layout, do visitors immediately know what you do?
- Promote social media connections, how can your visitors interact with you?
Fact is, everyone has a different opinion about what makes your website good or bad. However, we found that following proven techniques can lead to a more successful website, on any measure, but none of our websites are ever finished. Compare technology to just 4 years ago, were you using Twitter then(like Tim Piazza)? Successful user engagement is an intangible endeavor, that is helped by getting feedback, which was presented by our wildly talented panel we featured last night.
